Christians celebrated Christmas Day on 25 December 2009. Recently, the year of 2009 has passed. Everyone all over the world celebrates the New Year Eve by blowing trumpet and stoking fire works. Not to mention, Ubaya academic civitas also celebrate Christmas 2009 and New Year 2010 on PE building, 4 January 2010.
Present on the event were 100 Ubaya academic civitas that consists of Ubaya leaders, lecturers, and administrative staffs. Sitting on VIP section were Prof. Drs Ec Wibisono Hardjopranoto MS as Ubaya Rector, Drs Adji Prayitno MS Apt as Ubaya Vice Rector II, Anton Prijatno SH as Ubaya Foundation Chairman, Stany Soebakir as former Ubaya Foundation Chairman, Mrs. Kotjo as wife of previous Ubaya Foundation Chairman and Faculties’ Deans.
Christmas celebration is an annual tradition for Christians. “On this opportunity, I would like to say Merry Christmas for those who celebrate and Happy New Year to all of you here,” said Prof. Wibi in his opening speech. Gathering with all Ubaya academic civitas in the beginning of particular year is rare moment for this Ubaya Rector.
New year surely brings new resolution. This Ubaya alumnus believes that in this new year of 2010, stakeholders will love Ubaya more. “Ubaya has fulfilled what it has promised.” For Elly Hernawati SH MHum (Ubaya Dean Faculty of Law), New Year celebration is an appropriate moment to flash back what Ubaya has done in the previous year of 2009. “In this 2010, we have to correct what we have done wrong in 2009,” said this short haired woman.
Many important events happened in 2009. One of them is the death of Hajj Abdul Rahman Wahid or well known as Gus Dur. He is well respected as Indonesia’s Father of Pluralism. “Similar with Gus Dur, Ubaya also respect pluralism or more known as multicultural,” said Prof. Wibi. Multicultural idea came from the late Mr. Soekotjo (the first Ubaya Foundation Chairman). “Learning to live in diversity is an important pillar to education,” underlined Anton Prijatno.
Besides gathering, the event also introduced new Ubaya lecturers and staffs to audience. Part-time staffs, full-time staffs, and retired staffs are something common. Yesterday, 18 new Ubaya staffs and lecturers were introduced by Adji. One of them is Suryani Ika Putri SE, who is permanent staff at Quality Assurance unit. This 1997 Ubaya Faculty of Business and Economics alumnus is very happy to be appointed as full-time staff and introduced in front of audience. “Excited, I am so happy to be a full timer in Ubaya,” she said.
This woman who is usually called Ika enjoys benefit of the event. “My office is in Ngagel. Today, I have the opportunity to mingle with colleagues in Tenggilis,” she ended. Happy New Year 2010!!!
